Over 1,000 complete beginners have learned to play ukulele with this method.

You've pictured yourself playing.

At a family gathering. On a patio. Quietly on the couch after everyone's gone to bed. You've thought about learning an instrument before — and walked away thinking it would take too long, or that you missed your window somehow.

You didn't. The ukulele is the most forgiving instrument you can pick up, and this course was built for people starting from zero. No music background. No experience. Just you, a ukulele, and about an hour a day over 3 days.

HOW WE DO THIS

How you go from "I've never played anything" to strumming songs people recognize — in three sessions

Most popular music shares the same four chords — and on the ukulele, they're some of the simplest shapes you can play. Each session is about an hour. Completely self-paced — no schedules, no live classes, no pressure. Work through them whenever you want, as many times as you want.

Session 1

Learn Your First Chords

Each chord gets its own instruction video and its own practice video. Watch Dave play it, then practice at your own pace.

  • Instruction and practice videos for each of the four chords
  • Putting all four together in order
  • Practice video for the full progression

Includes downloadable chord reference sheet

By the end of this session, you'll know all four chords and hear how they start to sound like a real song.

Session 2

Play Your First Real Song

You know the chords. Now you play them in real songs. This session introduces strumming, a technique for playing along from your first try, and five play-along songs — from Country Roads to Three Little Birds — each one with Dave playing and singing right alongside you.

  • Strumming pattern instruction + practice video
  • Hum/strum technique — play along before you know the lyrics
  • Five play-along songs spanning decades and genres

Includes downloadable song sheets

Session 3

Sixteen Campfire Songs Under Your Belt

Same four chords, faster changes. This is where the songs start to sound like the recordings you grew up with. Let It Be, Don't Stop Believin', Can You Feel The Love Tonight, No Woman No Cry — eleven more play-along songs join the five from Session 2. Sixteen total, every one with Dave alongside you.

  • 2-count strumming instruction + practice video
  • Eleven more play-along songs across decades and genres

Includes downloadable song sheets

Sixteen songs you can play at a campfire, a family dinner, or just for yourself on the couch.

Unbox it Friday. Play songs people recognize by Sunday.

Every session includes practice videos you can come back to — the more you play, the better it sounds.

This course started in a room full of complete beginners.

Five years ago, someone asked Dave if he could teach a room full of people to play ukulele in a single session. Nobody in that room had ever touched an instrument. By the end of two hours, they were all playing real songs together.

That first session became Uke Night — and over a thousand complete beginners have come through since. Retirees, working parents, couples on date nights, a tech company's senior leadership team. Every one of them started from zero. Every one of them walked out playing.

This course is that same method — everything that worked in those rooms, rebuilt for your living room. Self-paced, with every lesson on video so you can rewind, slow down, and go at whatever speed works for you.

I was surprised how easy it was to catch on. Dave was fantastic — lots of fun, relaxed, and informative. Even if you don't think you have any musical ability, just go for it.

Meet Dave

Dave has spent five years teaching complete beginners to play ukulele — in person, in rooms where nobody had ever touched an instrument. Over a thousand people have come through his Uke Night sessions. He watched what worked, what confused people, what made them light up, and what made them quit. This course is built from all of it.

He also designs ukuleles. He's the founder of Honolua Ukuleles and has spent 20 years in the music industry as a performer and instrument specialist.

What students say

Over 1,000 Complete Beginners. A 4.9 Out of 5 Recommendation Rating.

These are from Uke Night live sessions — the in-person programme this course is built on. Same method, same instructor, same results.

I have taken a few ukulele courses and was absolutely blown over by what transpired in one two-hour evening. The group was actually playing several songs at the end of class! The learning surpassed 6 hours in a beginner group class and was much more fun.
— Suzanne E., Uke Night attendee
A fun evening with music, laughter, and a sense of accomplishment after only two hours of plonking away on an instrument I had not played before. I was surprised that I could mostly follow the songs by the end of the evening.
— Sharon R., Uke Night attendee
My husband and I did this for a date night and had an absolute blast. We loved Dave's energy and how engaged everyone was.
— Donna & Kyle P., Uke Night attendees

81% of live event students say they plan to keep playing after their first session. 95% rate the experience a perfect 5 out of 5.
